Intentional is committed to assisting law enforcement and public safety authorities while respecting member privacy and applicable law. This page explains how authorized agencies may submit requests for member data.
Requests must come from a verified law enforcement or government official on official letterhead. Submit requests through our Support page with "Law Enforcement Request" in the subject line.
We require valid legal process before disclosing member data, such as a subpoena, court order, search warrant, or other binding order from a court of competent jurisdiction. We review each request to confirm it is legally valid and within the requesting agency's authority.
If we receive a credible request involving an imminent risk of death or serious physical harm to any person, we may disclose limited information necessary to prevent that harm, as permitted by law, without waiting for formal legal process. We will document the request and follow up with formal confirmation.
Law enforcement may request that we preserve records pending issuance of legal process. Preservation requests must be in writing on official letterhead and must identify the account(s) at issue. We will preserve the specified records for a reasonable period to allow proper legal process to be obtained.
Depending on the account, we may hold profile information, verification media, match and message records, photos and introductions, and limited account and usage metadata. We disclose only what is specifically required by valid legal process.
When permitted by law, we will notify affected members of law enforcement data requests, unless we are legally prohibited from doing so or an emergency exception applies.
Requests from outside our operating jurisdiction should be made through applicable mutual legal assistance treaties (MLATs) or other recognized legal processes.
We may seek reimbursement for the reasonable costs of responding to data requests, as permitted by law.
Questions about these protocols can be directed through our Support page.
